Easter/Spring Break 2016

Isaac's first few weeks as a two-year-old have been busy and full of new developments each day.  Each day he surprises us with new things he says and the things he does.  He has all of a sudden started putting his bath toys away after his bath.  He seems to know his shapes and colors pretty well, and says a few strings of ABCs in order and counts to five and sometimes to ten.  He's been singing along to lots of songs lately, with "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" seeming to be his current favorite.  Here's another VIDEO of him dancing to the Letter of the Day on Sesame Street.

The days leading up to spring break were especially busy with Mommy having rehearsals and masses every day from Monday until Easter Sunday, leaving Daddy in charge of most of the dinners and bedtimes that week.  Isaac did make it to Good Friday and the Vigil masses, and loved spending time with his choir friends when Mommy had one of her practices at the house. The Vigil was especially long at 2 hours, and Isaac surprised all of us with how good he was.  For the first hour he sat with Sandy, Buddy, Corey, Brandon, Kelly, Aunt Margie and Mom-mom-mom, happily pointing out all of his friends as they walked by, "Jim!" "Alice!" (only his short /i/ words have more of a long /e/, so it sounds more like Jeem and Aleese.) And he spent the last hour sitting in the pew with Daddy and Barb, shoveling endless snacks into his mouth, with people sitting behind him leaning forward to see if he was in fact still eating!

When Isaac was at Sandy's that week, she caught this cute moment with Declan reading to Isaac, practicing their animal sounds. What does a camel say?

We also had some excitement that week when Isaac got ahold of Mommy's keys and pushed the panic button, setting off the house alarm.  This caused the police to arrive, and Isaac got to meet his first police officer.  That same day Isaac had a love-hate relationship with an apple-pear.  After quite a few disappointed bites, Mommy finally caught the dramatic, funny reaction on VIDEO. Isaac has never met a fruit he didn't like, so this reaction was especially surprising and amusing. It seemed to be the skin that offended him so much, as once he got past that part he was able to finish most of it.

Easter Sunday was a cold, dreary morning so Daddy dressed Isaac in some (old) double hoodies and jeans so he could venture outside to see what the Easter bunny had left. Isaac found his basket out on the back deck.  He was really excited and happy to discover his crate of goodies, but seemed most excited about the cheese cracker bunnies and once they were opened, Isaac checked out all of his other gifts one-handed, with a handful of crackers occupying his other hand.  The Easter bunny was perhaps a little overly-generous this year with Isaac's birthday being the previous week.  The plan was to give him his new sandbox and sand toys for his birthday, but with snowy/rainy weather on the forecast that week we decided to hold off until Easter in the hope of warmer weather.

After church and naptime we had the family over for Easter dinner.

Isaac just loves being wherever Declan is, and that includes being all up in his personal space.  While Declan was nicely playing on the floor, Isaac made himself comfortable right in Declan's lap.  Declan very nicely used his words, asking Isaac to please get off of him, even suggesting he go and open his presents. Isaac would stand up for a few moments, and then plop back down on Declan's lap.  He was quite upset when Mommy finally removed him.

During Spring Break...

We had a family outing to Downs Park where Isaac had a great time playing on the toddler playground and checking out the beach and water from the windy pier.

"That way!"

We also met up with some of Mommy's former teacher friends for a post-Easter egg hunt.  Isaac was more interested in exploring new surroundings than with "searching" for eggs, but he had a great time at the playground working on his climbing skills and having a few pow-wows under the cherry blossom tree. On our way out the door, Isaac grabbed his coffee maker and insisted on taking it with us on the ride.

We also had a visit with Amanda for a mini baby shower celebration.  Isaac loved having her allll to himself, showing off all of his toys, and having a good laugh at sharing his Jesus Loves Me bunny he got from our neighbors.

And on the very last night of spring break we ended with Mommy's favorite moment.  After dinner we did some counting practice with blueberries, and Mommy jokingly tossed a blueberry in the air to catch in her mouth.  Isaac thought it was SO funny, over and over again, so we were finally able to catch his rolling giggles on VIDEO. This boy loves to laugh.  He was even laughing in his sleep the other night!

Other than that, we've done a lot of work around the house this week.  Isaac learned how to steam clean the floors, and attempted to figure out his new wheelbarrow from Aunt Karen.

Over the weekend Daddy went to Aunt Margie's to help the guys tear down her deck and pool.  Mommy and Isaac joined them for dinner after all of their hard work.  Isaac and Declan had a great time running around in the new sand pit.

Giggle-giggle!

While taking a break from a basement drum session, Isaac discovered Mommy's old guitar and Daddy brought it upstairs so they could check it out.  We've also spent a lot of time at the piano this week.  Isaac loves checking out the different settings on the keyboard and thinks it is SO funny when Mommy plays a song while he's changing the instrument sounds and adding background music.

Isaac learned how to climb up the counter height stools a few weeks ago, and there's just no stopping him now.  He loves to climb up there and have a snack or read a book from up there. And speaking of reading books, here's a Sunday morning shot of Isaac where he found himself a pillow nest and surrounded himself with books.
