Where did June go?

You would think having two parents who are teachers, home on summer break there would be all sorts of spare time to catch up things like updating the blog! I've been adding pictures regularly, but have just not found the mental energy to do any write ups to document what Isaac has been up to, and his latest developments.

We've been spending most of our time getting ready for chickens. Mommy has designed, planned, and with Daddy's assistance, built a state-of-the-art chicken run, in preparation for the chicken coop to be delivered this weekend.  As you can see above, Isaac has been doing his share of helping.  The picture above was taken amidst a moment of frustration as Mommy struggled to line up the latch for the door. Isaac must have sensed this and began to lean forward and kiss Mommy on the cheek over and over again. If that won't make you smile, then I don't know what will! Isaac has also been observing the different chicken run parts throughout the weeks and when he sees it he says, "Mommy built that [for] chickens!"

Isaac has also gotten to check out a lot of new places the past few weeks. When Mommy had BEES after school let out, Daddy took him on all sorts of adventures. And when we haven't been working in the yard, we've been trying to get out as much as possible for various day trips.

Here are some highlights:

Fun at Mt. Washington:

  • Before school let out, Mommy took Isaac to Daddy's school to check out their end of year celebration where he was able to go on a pony ride, watch the big kids go down a water slide, have a little water fun, and eat lunch in Daddy's science lab. Isaac refused to wear the helmets provided for the pony ride, but fortunately we happened to have his helmet in the car with us.  He was proud and confident on his longest pony ride yet, and afterwards he was able to pet the pony, which he also wound up "head butting" as well. Good thing he had that helmet on!

Corey's Graduation party:

  • We had a lot of fun celebrating Corey's graduation from high school! Isaac loved playing in the pool, sneaking in a bite of cookie, and following Declan around doing whatever he was doing. They had a water balloon fight (which consisted of dropping water balloons in the grass and watching them break), some relay racing, and even a dance party. His favorite was just getting to spend time with family - he's always asking to "go visit ___" or "go have fun a ____'s house".

Selfies with Mommy:

  • Isaac and I seem to take a lot of selfies in a month. He has started to push the button himself, "Acky dood it". One night, Mommy was using her phone to get something on her face that Daddy pointed out, and she saw Isaac in the background mocking her, making the same faces as her. It was pretty funny.

Isaac and the dogs:

  • Isaac has been more and more interested in the dogs, following them around, sharing snacks, and trying to play with them more than they'd like.  He thinks it's a hoot. The dogs not so much.

Father's Day:

  • Daddy went to the O's game with CharliePop and some other friends on Father's Day, so Isaac got to spend the morning with Mom-mom-mom while Mommy was at church. And then he spent the day with Mommom while Mommy got ready for a cookout once Daddy got home.

Snoozin':

  • Sleeping in the big boy bed has maybe shown some slight improvement since our last entry.  There have been more naps, some even lasting longer than 90 minutes, but they are not as consistent as they once were and bedtime is still a long process. He loves climbing in the "big beds" and getting cozy under the covers. It never lasts long though.
Finally just napping in Daddy's lap after a 2 hour battle

"Mommy stay here?"
After a long nap, he just laid in my nap for another 30 minutes, not quite ready to get up

Snacks and a "movie" on the couch are a new favorite request.

He has started doing this fist wave for a lot of pictures lately. No idea where it came from!

Science Center:

  • Isaac got to go to the Science Center twice this month! Once on a playdate with Mommy and the whole Gowans family, and once during BEES with Daddy, Shipp, and Victor. He had a great time both visits and keeps asking to go back.

Other adventures with Daddy:

  • Daddy got to spend some long, quality days with Isaac when Mommy had BEES. On top of going to the Science Center, they also spent time at the B&O museum, Federal Hill, the Visitor Center, and the fountains.

While at the playground with Daddy, Isaac stopped while playing and ran to grab a lone dandelion and said, "Make wish [for] Mommy!"

Sandy Point:

  • We had a mini beach day with Debbie at Sandy Point.  We were a little disappointed in the trash, and then a little paranoid after several jellyfish spottings. But Isaac had a great time playing in the sand (or as he insisted, "dirt"), and getting the in the water and giggling when waves came up to his chin. Debbie got some fun "artsy fartsy" pictures too!

Out and about:

  • There have been lots of other outings over the past few weeks as well. Mommy had a nice visit with Jodi and Amanda and their little newborns. The playground set has finally be replaced at the airport park, so we went and checked that out a few times. One night we packed up a picnic dinner and ate in the back of the Subaru while we watched the planes come in. Isaac and Daddy stopped by Sandy's house one day while out on a walk and got a very special treat: a guitar just his size! He proudly held it on the walk back home. And was very excited to take it with him on our next Sunday visit to Mom-mom-mom's to show off "Aunt Sandy's geetar". We also went with Debbie to Daddy's end-of-school-year happy hour at "a bar". Isaac enjoyed eating "bar food" with Debbie, totally taking over her ketchup for his fries, and then telling us "have fun bar" as we were leaving.  And of course Costco continues to be a favorite stop for "snacks". Grocery stores in general are a fun experience now, as Isaac's food vocabulary is pretty extensive and one of his latest phrases is, "Try some _____", so while at a grocery store it's, "Try some tomatoes?", "Try some of that?", "Try some eggs?", etc., just naming everything he sees.

We've had a few visits with Isaac's BFF, Debbie. Mommy and Debbie have gone on a few bike rides this month, and then of course we spend some time with Isaac when we get home. Not sure if Isaac was stalling bedtime, or just really wanted to cuddle with Debbie...whatever his intentions, he definitely won!

Guitar practice. Isaac has been really developing an ear for music and can recognize various instruments by sound such as guitar, violin, banjo, drums, piano, harmonica, and bass. He'll even point out what he doesn't hear,"no piano that song", and has been really mesmerized watching different music videos for some of our favorite songs.
