Summer Adventures: August Edition

August was a pretty eventful month for Sweet Sir Isaac and the homestead. After we returned from the Outer Banks we took a special trip out to a farm in Harpers Ferry to pick up our chickens!! After a LOT of hard work throughout the summer, the coop and chicken run were ready for the intended inhabitants. We wound up getting 6 young hens; 2 Buff Orpingtons named Penny and Clementine (known as the golden retrievers of chickens), 2 Black & Silver laced Wyandottes named Sterling and Lacey, and 2 Easter Eggers named Dinah and Eloise.

Isaac really enjoyed the trip to the farm picking out the chickens, but he got particularly attached to the teacup pig and was very adamant about wanting to take him home with us. Here are a few pictures of the chickens' new digs and of the gals getting acclimated in their new space over their first few weeks on the homestead.

Mommy built this!

In August we also got to spend some quality time with Declan, which Isaac was very excited about. We spent one day having fun around the house, playing with the chickens, running in the sprinkler and playing in the playroom. Then we had a day of fun at the Science Center and the Federal Hill playground.

Declan was very excited to meet the chickens!

Some of our other outings this month included lots of various playground visits, and our first trip to Storyville (which was pretty awesome).

Then there were lots of shenanigans around the house. Isaac can almost always be found with an instrument of some sort in hand, whether it's one of his guitars, violin, harmonica, piano, or drum, he's very often playing and/or singing a song (real or made up).

Of course the dog days of summer also brought more lounging and relaxation around the house as well. This guy loves snuggling under the covers.

Isaac also got to attend his first pool party when we were invited to GERSTEL's company picnic at the end of the month. Isaac loved the kiddie pool and really wanted to try out the diving board in the big pool. This kid is a little too fearless for Mommy's liking!

off to the party!

Perhaps the biggest milestone of the month was Isaac's first day of "school". This semester Isaac is attending a learning center one day a week. He has been learning so much and each week seems to get more and more comfortable with the routine and socializing. He loves his lunchbox and nap mat, which he happily tested out at home before using on his cot at school.
