Mother's Day Weekend

Isaac has been having a rough week of sleeping and has spent a few of the early morning hours in bed with us (part of his sleep trouble could be from the 4 new teeth that he's working on).  The other morning Isaac actually slept in past 8am. But as you can see in the picture below, Mommy did not.

For the most part, Isaac just doesn't seem to be tired. Ever! Case in point, before naptime today:

and, first thing in the morning, checking out our new babyproofed headboard (replaced the rocks and glass bottles from our honeymoon with puzzles, books, and stuffed animals):

Scenes like this seem few and far between this week, and in the middle of the night the only thing to calm him are nursing or showing him videos of himself. The kid is vain and hungry!

Isaac spent a lot of time outside this week, practicing pushing his cart out front and out on the driveway, sometimes in shoes and sometimes barefoot. Every time confidently, proudly, and interested in his surroundings.

We've mentioned many times that Isaac is an explorer.  He is getting faster and faster and more and more curious.  He loves climbing up on his highchair and recently discovered the handles on the back.  He has also recently been very interested in trying to figure out how the blinds work.  He also learned how to turn on the TV the other day, which was funny because we don't usually have the TV on when he's around, let alone use the remotes, but he pressed the big red button and looked at the TV and then looked at me to see if I realized what he'd done. He still gets a kick out of the dogs and loves looking outside.

Here's a video segment of "Mommy's daily heart attack" from Isaac's curiosity.

Here is he is having a great time exploring the rug aisles of Kohl's at full speed. He didn't even stop to look if I was following him or not.  A few teenage girls had some good laughs when he popped out and surprised them.  Also while out on our errands, many people comment on his glasses, his cheeks, his slowly-appearing smile, and how much seeing him makes their day.  He made a lot of new friends/fans this week!

On Saturday we hosted a Mother's Day dinner, with all of the dads collaborating to put the meal together for all the moms. It was delicious! Thanks guys!

It took Isaac a LONG time to warm up to everyone after he woke up from his nap.  He spent a lot of time open-mouth staring and sitting uncharacteristically still. When he finally warmed up, he was at full speed. He had us laughing with his passionate headshakes, particularly when we asked, "is it past your bed time?"

Isaac was up way past his bedtime on Saturday so we had high hopes he would sleep well that night, but that wasn't the case. So on Sunday morning after another really bad night's sleep, Daddy took Isaac downstairs for breakfast and let Mommy sleep a bit longer (THANK YOU!).  Later in the morning Isaac happily crawled into bed to wake Mommy wearing a "Happy Mother's Day! Love, Isaac" onesie that he secretly ordered from Etsy. He also got her a gift certificate to Antrium 1844 for Mommy and Daddy to have a date night, a turqoise necklace, and a mystery gift that is yet to arrive.  Daddy made pancakes and bacon for Mommy while Isaac napped. Then Mommy went to a movie and out shopping with Mommom Patti while Daddy took Isaac to visit Grandma Jean and the rest of the Rests.

We tried to get some pictures of Isaac in his Mother's Day onesie, but he was not cooperating. He kept attacking Mommy with adorable, slobbery kisses. And when he wasn't doing that, he was making silly faces for the camera. And one of the shots of him actually looking at the camera came out in really strange colors with Isaac looking like he had blue lips.

Finally after some extra cuddles from Mommy at bedtime, Isaac fell asleep. Here's hoping for a long overdue good night's sleep for all!
