Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! For New Years Eve we hosted a pre-bedtime/toddler-friendly happy hour with Jodi, Jamal & Jarrett.  The boys seemed to have a good time cooking in the kitchen and playing in the playroom. Jarrett even taught Isaac some new words, with "oooh!" being his new favorite.  When it was time to change into pj's, we realized Isaac and Jarrett have the same pajamas (Costco), so of course Isaac had to get into matching gear. Isaac fell asleep shortly after our guests left, and slept through midnight until about 5am, and then snuggled in and slept for a few more hours.

On New Years Day, Isaac got the memo that this is meant to be a lazy day, and after a late breakfast, reading (and pulling down) Christmas cards, and some fun with playdough, he was happy to relax on the couch and watch the Rose Parade.

Enjoying the parade floats made of seeds and flowers:

Then Isaac got really excited to put together the new train set from great Uncle Tony.

...followed by more pre-nap relaxing:

We've had a lot of parties and late gatherings during this Christmas break which has gotten Isaac a bit off schedule in terms of sleeping.  He's been going to bed later, and therefore waking up later, which leads to napping later, and then of course causes a later bedtime, and thus the cycle continues.  To try and get him back on schedule we've had to wake him up from his nap, which results in this sleepyhead face, complete with crazy bedhead:

crazy hair!

The holiday season brought in quite a few new favorite books for Isaac.  He really enjoys looking through our new photo book of pictures from the past year.  He likes identifying everyone and definitely has a few favorites.  He also really loves his big picture book from Santa and Thomas the Tank play-a-sound book from our neighbors across the street. He loves these books so much that he's been insisting on having them in his crib for nap and bed times, and after looking through them and pushing the buttons, he literally snuggles with the books under his arm as he falls asleep.  The first picture below shows Isaac after waking up from a 4-hour nap today, just happily "reading" his picture book (via the baby monitor).

everyone enjoyed a lazy afternoon today

We ended New Year's Day with a brisk family walk around the neighborhood looking at Christmas lights.  Isaac was happy to sport his new mittens from Mommom and the dogs were happy to get a chance to wear their new sweaters from Santa.
