A (rainy) Day in the Life

**This was written on May 2, 2016 and I just realized I never posted it! An update on the past 3 weeks will be coming soon!**

The blog of #SweetSirIsaac has revolved mostly around documented moments in his life.  If there's no picture or video it often gets left out or forgotten amidst the sorting of photos and uploading of videos.  After a particularly eventful day home with Isaac, I thought I'd blog about a typical day around here while it's still fresh on my mind!

This semester, Mondays are one of Mommy's days off and we usually spend Mondays grocery shopping and running other errands, with maybe a stop at a playground we encounter along the way.  Today, however, we decided to enjoy a rainy day at the house, starting with Isaac sleeping in until almost 8:30! He woke up happily singing "Baa, Baa Black Sheep" and some other seemingly made up songs.  He stayed laying down, singing, until Mommy came in. He instantly sat up and announced he had a "hurt finger", and was holding his hand up almost like a surfer dude going "surf's up!".  Upon inspection, Mommy saw there was in fact a small scratch on his finger, she kissed it and it was immediately forgotten about.

After some milk and a diaper change we headed downstairs for breakfast. Mommy asked Isaac if he'd like to give poached eggs a try.  He agreed and gnawed on an apple pancake muffin while Mommy made a pair of poached eggs and toast.  While his egg cooled, Mommy showed him how to take the toast and dip it in the yoke.  Isaac was a pro when it was time to try out this new way of eating with his own egg.  He ate every bite, begging for more egg when he was done. "More egg, please!" Isaac had some fruit for dessert. After demanding grapes, Mommy did the routine, "can you ask nicely?" to which Isaac responds with a charming smile, head tilt, and a sweet "grapes, please?" Then Mommy asks how many, to which he always responds "Three!" Together we count the grapes...and repeat this process a handful of times because 3 grapes is never enough for Sir Isaac!

After breakfast Mommy got Isaac psyched for some "science!" that she set up the night before.  Baking soda and food coloring in some different sized glass containers, and a squeeze bottle of vinegar.  Isaac got to climb up in his learning tower (which we have to keep put away as Isaac uses it to assist in climbing on top of the counters and tables when we're not looking!) and after some assistance from Mommy, quickly got the hang of squirting vinegar into the jars.  The pictures below are all from different points when Isaac observed the reaction and then looked up with a look of pure joy. He observed it was getting "big! bigger!" and Mommy taught him the word "fizz".  The experiment ended when Isaac noticed a bit of food coloring that had stained the tip of his finger.  "Dirty, finger? Dirty, finger! All done, science!" (And Mommy quickly learned how difficult it is to clean food coloring off of a toddler.)  Isaac did a really good job with not sticking his fingers in the jars or trying to put anything in his mouth. Progress from previous attempts at "science"!

Somehow it was only 9:35 by the time all of these morning adventures wrapped up! Isaac requested to "play outside", but it was raining pretty steadily, so we headed into the playroom where Mommy worked on drinking her (at this poitn) cold coffee and Isaac played with his toys for a bit.  Eventually he grabbed the guitar and requested "Mommy dood it" (Mommy, do it.).  Keep in mind the only "song" Mommy knows how to play on the guitar is the Jaws theme song, but Isaac loves it when I randomly strum the out-of-tune guitar and we sing random songs. Today we sang the ABCs over and over and Isaac wowed Mommy by hitting all of the letters (with the exception of a rather jumbly L, M, N, O).

After a bit more playing/making a mess, Isaac asked again if we could go outside. By this time even though it was quite chilly out, the rain had stopped, so Mommy promised we could go on a walk if Isaac put his toys away.  And to Mommy's surprise, he did! So we geared up in our rainboots and went out on a puddle hunt. Mommy let Isaac point the way, so after following a few "that way!" directions, we wound up right where Isaac intended, at the duck pond.  We watched the ducks and geese for quite a while and then Isaac decided he wanted to go see the "choo-choo trains" (lightrail).  Once we got to the enclosed trail, Mommy let Isaac walk without holding her hand and it was here that we found our first batch of puddles to splash in.  Mommy had to show Isaac how to splash - it only took one demonstration before Isaac was jumping and splashing and looking out for other puddles. VIDEO HERE of Isaac jumping in puddles until getting distracted/concerned about stick he found in the puddle.  We found his encounter with this stick to be rather interesting.

action shot!

We made it to the train tracks just in time to see two different trains take off.  Then it was off to find some more puddles as we headed back home for lunch and a nap. The day ended with Isaac's first ever bubble bath.
