Happy Halloween from Middle Earth!

CharliePop is a big Hobbit/Lord of the Rings fan, and for the past few months has made several comments on how "hobbit-like" Isaac is with his love of nature, books, food, and sticks.  Mommy agreed to dress Isaac as a hobbit for Halloween as long as CharliePop also dressed up as Gandalf to help bring the costume together.

Mommy found a generous Mobtown Mommy (a total stranger) to lend her the vest and dress shirt.  A friend from high school gave her the jagged-hem, patched pants that she had made as part of her 2 yo's Frankenstein costume. The "cape" is actually a large dog coat. Mommom made his hairy feet by cutting out the toes of his sandals and sticking on some "fur" from Joanne's.  And the walking stick was made by CharliePop from Mommy's favorite childhood dogwood tree that recently had to be cut down. I used a little sunscreen to style Isaac's hair in a tossled Hobbit mess. Oh, and of course the look was completed with an old ring from Mommy's jewelry box tied around his neck.  My Precious!

On Halloween Mommy had to play piano for a 4pm wedding that ran a bit late, cutting into precious Halloween daylight.  To save time, Daddy brought Isaac Baggins in costume and met her at Mom-mom-mom's so she, Aunt Margie, and Uncle Tony could see Isaac all dressed up. Isaac held up his "cauldron" for a treat (a pair of apples) from Mom-mom-mom as if he knew exactly what he was doing.

trick-or-treat!

...smell my (hairy) feet
...give me something good to eat!
got anything else?

(Earlier in the week when we visited Mom-mom-mom she made a cape for the boys out of an old umbrella. Isaac was a good sport as he was dressed up.)

Then it was back home where Mommy quickly changed into medieval clothes to "blend in" with the LOTR crew.  CharliePop brought his Gandalf costume and got dressed in front of Isaac to help keep Isaac from getting scared of the bearded wizard. Our laid-back Isaac wasn't fazed one bit.

Obviously, once everyone was in costume it was time to go outside to take a few hundred pictures.

Giddyup! Off on an adventure!

Then we headed across the street to trunk-or-treat at the church. Isaac enjoyed just staring at the decorations and people in costume.  He didn't really seem to care or notice that people were putting candy in his cauldron; he just quietly took everything in.  Then we met up with Kelly, Steve, and Declan/Hiro. Isaac did some more staring as he tried to figure out what was different about his pal.

Our final stop of the evening was to go see Sandy and Buddy.  We planned on just making a quick stop so they could see Isaac in his costume, but he literally stood with his walking stick, staring pensively for almost an hour straight, so we stayed and hung out for a bit and watched Isaac observe the trick-or-treaters.

He just stood there with his stick, looking left...and right...

Earlier this week there was a costume contest at GERSTEL (Mommom & CharliePop's work). Isaac wasn't able to make it for the judging, so Mommy sent in an 11x14 print of Isaac in his costume for CharliePop to use as an "accessory" with his Gandalf getup.  And he (and Isaac) won! They get to go on a shopping spree with a $25 Target gift card.

On Friday, Aunt Margie had a fun Halloween craft planned for the boys.  They decorated little foam jack-o-lanterns and wore their cute Halloween outfits.

I tried to get a picture of them in front of the fridge with their artwork.  While Declan cooperated and said, "cheese", Isaac stayed turned toward Declan making "mmmuah" kissy noises until Declan finally gave him a kiss!

saying, "Hobbbbit!"
