Mr. Sandman

Isaac has been really playing hard lately, and in turn keeping us on our toes with his slightly unpredictable nap schedule.  Last week at Sandy's he fell asleep while eating lunch! Until then he had never fallen asleep anywhere besides his crib/pack-n-play, or rarely, his carseat.  Then later that week, he woke up around 5am from his crib, but fell back asleep in bed with Mommy. Her alarm went off at 6:30, but Isaac was still snoozing, so she stayed in bed until about 7, when she had to get up or she'd be late for work, so she pulled her arm out from under Isaac, got up, showered, got dressed, blow-dried her hair...all while Isaac slept soundly in the bed! He finally woke up around 8. (Why doesn't he ever sleep that late on days we don't have to get to work?)

Where's Isaac?

Some rainy days last week kept us inside for coloring and fun with stickers. Isaac would point to the sticker he wanted, Mommy would tell him what it was and give him the sticker, and Isaac would then stick it on the paper.  That is, until Mommy named a sticker of a "hat", to which Isaac responded by sticking the hat sticker on his head (because that's where a hat goes, right?).  Mommy laughed, pulled the sticker off his head and gave it back to him to put on the paper. Isaac again stuck the hat on his head, where it stayed the rest of the day.

We had quite a scare this weekend while doing yardwork out back.  While Mommy was raking and pulling up ivy from Isaac's future play area, Daddy was in the driveway filling the truck with raked leaves while Isaac watched him from the open gate.  As Daddy's back was turned, Isaac suddenly took off running toward the street.  When Daddy noticed he ran after him as a few cars turned onto Greenwood. Isaac kept running, and Daddy shouted for the cars to stop. Our neighbor Ms. Pat stopped her car, having not seen Isaac until Daddy scooped him up out of harm's way.  Everyone involved was very shaken up except for Isaac who seemed completely oblivious to the whole situation.  Ms. Pat came by after she calmed her nerves a bit. She said when she got in the house she just collapsed on the floor, crying.  She didn't even see Isaac, and thought maybe one of the dogs had gotten out when she saw Daddy yelling to stop.  It was a really scary, but eye-opening experience as we now know more than ever how closely we need to watch our quick little explorer.

Aside from that, we had a very fun weekend enjoying a weekend completely free of any obligation for any of us. We can't remember the last time that's happened.  We spent every evening at the airport park where Isaac loved watching the constant flow of airplanes taking off and landing, and going down the tube slide over and over again.

Friday night was homemade pizza night.  This time Mommy made a little extra dough so she could make Isaac his very own personal pizza with carmelized onions, fresh mozzarella, and greens grown by Uncle Tyler.  He proudly ate every last bite!

On Saturday we went to the Friends of Patuxent Wildlife Holiday Bazaar at the National Wildlife Visitor Center in Laurel.  Isaac had a blast checking out the different craft vendors, taxidermal animals, and life-like diorama displays in the visitor center.  He also got to "pet" a snake as part of an interactive story time.  He was very interested in touching the snake, but oddly enough was incredibly unsure of some worms Mommy tried to show him while doing yardwork the other day.

snack time

Monday was yet another beautiful day, so we spent the morning at Kinder Farm Park.  We got there early and pretty much had the playground to ourselves for quite a while.  Isaac acted like a pro climbing up the stairs and going down several different slides.  He seems to have finally figured out he needs to sit first, and can't just walk down on his feet (on several occasions we have come terribly close to learning this lesson the hard way). He loved seeing the goats as usual, and got extra excited when a very long-necked goat reached his head out to be pet ( or more likely, fed).

He almost fell asleep in this huge swing!
The cold days we had last week have called for some snuggly blanket time. Mommy finished the crochet blanket she'd been working on for Isaac for Christmas, but she couldn't wait to show it to him!

Isaac said, "challenge accepted!" to this whole hard boiled egg we gave him. Lesson learned!

Isaac has been spending more and more time in the dogs' beds, oftentimes kicking out a comfortably residing wiener dog.  In this case, it was a runaway naked baby taking a detour at bath time.
