Kermit & MISS Piggy

Isaac enjoyed celebrating his first Halloween. Mommy found a simple DIY idea for a Kermit costume that Mommom helped her put together, and then by chance, she found a Miss Piggy dog costume on sale at Petsmart to complete the theme.

Costume fitting at Mommom's:

Isaac got a lot of use out of his costume.  Last week we went to Liz & Derek's for dinner and then out to the Patterson Park Lantern Parade.  At dinner, Isaac played on his blanket and hung out with a cat for the first time.  Kitty and Kermit just sort of ignored each other as they shared the blanket.  Isaac seemed to really enjoy the cool kaleidescope-themed lanterns at the parade too. He was squealing a lot and laughing as Mommy danced with him to the drumbeats in the parade.

not sure what to think of his new frog "hands"

Then later in the week Isaac got to be Kermit again as he showed off his costume to great Aunt Margie, great great Uncle Tony, and Mom-mom-mom.

Finally, on Halloween proper he of course dressed up again, this time with Miss Piggy (AKA Allie) by his side.

Allie really is a good sport

Isaac was very fascinated by the blonde wig

Isaac spent Halloween morning playing with pumpkins and reading the 5 Little Pumpkins book from Aunt Margie. He seemed to really like the bright orange pumpkins in the pictures. We also spent some time sitting out in the front yard watching all of the school buses drive by.  The buses were full of screaming children excited to get home for trick-or-treating.

the gang played a "trick" on Mommy and wouldn't let her make the bed today

Then we had a family walk to Sandy's where we got to see Captain Declan all dressed up in his fireman costume.

Our final stop was off to Mommom's and CharliePop's where he got a few more great pumpkin books. Isaac enjoyed gnawing on his treat bucket and didn't seem to mind it didn't have much candy in it.

Finally, home to bed to change into our Halloween monster pj's from Aunt Margie:

While he didn't get much candy, Isaac got quite a few great Halloween goodies and cards celebrating his first Halloween.

And of course we tried the obligatory baby-in-pumpkin (or, as Mommom called it: "pumpkin pants") photo op to commemorate Isaac's first Halloween and likely the last time he will actually fit in a pumpkin. It was a very short lived moment as Isaac was extremely focused on eating the pumpkin.

Mr. Piggy

This past week Isaac has suddenly gone from "tasting and spitting out" to "gobbling down and can't get enough of" his food.  This was a rather surprising turnaround given that Mommy had heard from other BLW (Baby Led Weaning) moms that their babies didn't actually start eating/swallowing the solid foods until about 11 months.  Isaac has tried lots of different foods in the past month: green beans, Greek yogurt, steamed shrimp, avocado, pasta, chicken, broccoli, apples, eggs, meatloaf, sweet potatoes, and cheese. Almost anything Mommy & Daddy have, Isaac has gotten to try. But his favorites seem to be bread and pineapple. He really can't get enough of those two things in particular.

In general, Isaac has been a fast learner with everything at meal time.  He seems to understand that getting in his highchair and wearing a bib means food is coming (as the dogs have quickly learned to stay close by when Isaac is taken out of the highchair as they get all of the missed bits wiped to the floor).  The first time Mommy tried spoon-feeding Isaac some yogurt, he snatched the spoon from her and fed himself.  When Mommy gave Isaac a sippy cup of water he mastered that almost right away too.

Isaac had quite a busy social calendar last week too.  Last Wednesday we went to Jodi's and got to see Jarrett and also godmother Amanda.
future dentist?

He also spent some time at Sandy's and she got a great picture of Isaac and Declan together.  We couldn't believe the resemblance when we saw them side-by-side!

Then on Friday on our way to a playdate with Leela and JR we stopped at Great Kids Farms where Daddy was on a field trip with a few of his students. He was really happy to see us.

Isaac had a great time visiting with great Grandma on Monday.

Isaac ran errands with Mommy, but instead of using the Ergo baby carrier like we usually do, we tried out our cart cover.  Isaac really seemed to enjoy the new perspective. Although, with his new front row seat he seemed to feel more entitled to helping himself to Mommy's samples at Costco!

And of course there was some R&R throughout the week as always.  From hammock time, to playing outside in the backyard, to zonking out on the couch cuddled up with Allie, to selfies with Mom,  Isaac has been just as sweet and happy as ever.
