(more) Summer Fun

Summer fun for Isaac continues! This past week we had two more neighborhood parties! Last weekend we went next door to Mr. John's house where they were having a big party with lots of other kids. Isaac made a friend with a very sweet girl who was the niece of our neighbors. She entertained Isaac and watched out for him when the other kids started to get a little too wild.  At one point her brother shouted down to her asking what she was doing and her adorable response was, "I'm playing with my new little friend, Isaac! I knew I'd make a friend here but I didn't know it'd be him!".  Isaac had a great time splashing and sliding and walking around the yard with her. (We didn't realize there would be water fun at the party, hence the wet clothes.)

And last night we had a party at our new neighbors' behind us.  Isaac charmed all of the other neighborhood guests that were there.  Everyone was happy to see him and spend some time up close.  They couldn't believe how social he was, casually reaching out to be held by everyone in turn.

We've also been having a lot of water fun at the house with our little plastic pool and water table.  Isaac has spent most of these past summer days at home in swim gear or just a diaper.  Tough life!

Here he is exploring the funny echo his voice makes when he "talks" into the colander

On one of our pool days shortly after Isaac had just started to walk, Mommy got him inside and took off all his wet clothes, including his diaper.  As soon as that diaper was off, so was Isaac! He very proudly and very nakedly took off running across the family room. Of course Mommy had to get a picture! Here is a censored version of our little nudist.

We also got to spend some time with Declan this week! Declan was really interested in the battery powered walking dachshund. Isaac hadn't played with it in a while either, so it was fun for both boys (and Allie) to watch the little weiner dog trot around the playroom. Declan also got some quality time with (Mr. - haha) Mike while Mommy and Isaac left for a bit to pick up Mommom from the airport!

This week we also went to the Maryland Science Center where it's free for teachers and kids under 3, so we had a very cheap and fun family day! This was Isaac's first public outing since learning to walk so we had him in shoes for the occassion.  He struggled a bit at first, but eventually got the hang of it and kept his shoes on all day. He now frequently brings me his shoes or gets very excited whenever he comes across them.  After the Science Center we went to Bay Leaf for their Indian lunch buffet.  Isaac enjoyed everything we let him try!

Also this week, while Mommy was teaching, Daddy took Isaac back to karaoke at the senior center with Grandpa Larry, Grandma Jean, Lucia, and Gracie.  Lucia sang a lot of songs, and then all of the Rests got up and sang "My Girl".  Mommy was sad to have missed the performance!

Isaac got some new flipflops for our upcoming beach trip.  Even though they don't stay on his feet too well, he LOVES them and often carries them into Mommy first thing in the morning. (Sorry for the blurry shot! Now that this guy is on the move it's getting even harder to get clear pictures!)

This is what he did seconds after I told him in was time for bedtime stories.  He was SO proud of himself! He's also getting more confident with trying to carry stuff up the stairs with him.  The picture below that shows him trying to carry his monkey upstairs, which he could have done successfully if Mommy wasn't too worried about him tripping on the long arms!

Isaac tried out a sweet pepper the other day.  He was very transfixed and couldn't quite figure it out. Corn on the cob, on the other hand, continues to be a favorite and he's darn good at clearing off the cob! It's pretty impressive how well he gets every kernel. Speaking of eating, another new trick is that Isaac oinks like a pig when asked "what sound does a piggy make?"

a cob of corn for each hand

Isaac seems to love books and stories more and more.  He's getting more and more interested in sitting with us while we read to him, and can often be found reading on his own, or bringing a book to Mommy while pointing and doing his "ehh?" to ask what is in the pictures. Speaking of books, Isaac hilariously says "Dadda" when he sees Bert (of Bert & Ernie) in the Sesame Street books we often read at bedtime.  We have no idea where it came from, but it's quite funny!

A new part of Isaac's bedtime routine is getting "bear hugs" from Mommy before being tucked in with a doggy and his homemade lovey.  He thinks this whole process is hilarious and he smiles and giggles the whole time.
